Blue and Grey Salt Glazed Pot

What's for sale?

This is a salt glazed, stoneware mustard or preserve pot with spoon, decorated in cobalt blue over grey.  

It's a good example of such highly-glazed pottery traditionally made in the Rhineland area of Germany.  The superb glaze comes from the addition of salt to the kilns during the firing process, when the higher temperatures are reached.

We think this is particularly well-decorated: a strong blue pattern over a paler, stippled finish and similar bold highlights on the handles and lid.
