What's for sale?
This is a large, Scottish, stoneware cream pot, from the early 20th century.
It was made for the Wigtownshire Creamery of Stranraer in South West Scotland, and has an evocative, sepia-coloured transfer print of a dairy maid with a three legged milking stool and pail. Pots like these were produced in large numbers throughout Britain, and were branded differently for each dairy.
Most stoneware packaging bottles and pots like this were mass-produced and roughly made, and many will have firing faults, glazing faults or imperfect printing. They were intended to be used and thrown away, so it's likely that most of those around today have been rescued from old rubbish tips.
