A set of six metal & ceramic coasters for sale

This is a set of six coasters, comprised of a decorated ceramic disk set into a fluted, punched-out, metal border.  Each coaster is dominated by a vibrant yellow flower and green leaf and the artwork is an interesting combination of what looks like a transfer print combined with airbrushed black, green and yellow paint.

The pattern is referenced by the "4483" on the underneath of each coaster, but we haven't identified the maker yet. They're difficult to age; more sophisticated airbrushing came along during the 1920s and 1930s (often referred to as 'spritzdekor'), and it's possible that they are earlier than that, or later from the 1940s or 1950s.

They're colourful and decorative, still usable as coasters, and can be displayed flat or stood up on edge.

What condition are they in?

  • Second-hand
  • In fair to good condition, varying greatly from  coatser to coaster
  • One of the coasters has a long hairline crack but remains solid and intact
  • Each coaster has a number of tiny losses of colour
  • The metal is heavily tarnished

What are the measurements?

  • 1cm high on average
  • 7cm ceramic diameter
  • 10.5cm wide overall
  • around 50 grams each
  • 302 grams in total
