This is an Edwardian, large, oval serving platter by Wood & Sons in their "Venice" pattern, which is a simple, elegant design in dark blue.
It's a very large platter made from semi-porcelain, which is a hard, white, non-translucent earthenware.
Platters are a traditional way to present food and are perfect for Christmas dinner. Old china tableware can continue to be used and enjoyed, but it shouldn't be put in a dishwasher or left immersed in hot water. Wash by hand with warm water and washing-up liquid.
Who made it and when?
This was made by Wood & Sons of Burslem, Staffordshire. The maker's mark on the base dates it around 1907 and reads:
