This is an attractive piece of early 20th century, silver-plated table ware. A tall, slim and elegant, lidded claret jug or pitcher from the renowned German manufacturer WMF.
This piece is not listed in their 1906 or 1929 catalogues, but it has similarities to other claret jugs in the 1906 listings. It's probably later than that, but before Art Deco, and the mix of organic decoration with angular touches like the handle and finial, also fits the earlier period.
It has been lined with tin for food use.
Who made it and when?
It was made by the German metal ware manufacturer WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik). On the base is the maker's mark, a simple rhombus with a running ostrich, dating it between 1925 and 1930. Above the mark is the number 106, probably relating to the combination of materials and finish used. This shape and pattern were manufactured from around 1910 onwards.
What condition is it in?

- It has a highly polished, reflective, silver-plated surface
- There are faint scratches and tarnish in places, which under magnification, look worse in our photographs than in the flesh
- When you move it around in the light you can see what the photograhs are picking up, but the overall look is clean, poilished, silver plating
- There are no significant dents
- The hinge and lid work freely
- The lid sits at an angle, higher at the front than at the back
- It isn't in perfect condition, but it is one of the best we have ever seen
