This is a lovely suit or trump indicator for card games. It's in the form of a little bird and handmade from two Tagua nuts. It has glass eyes and a red beak which was made from an early form of phenolic resin plastic, similar to Bakelite.
It's a sweet and simple design; the bird's head can be turned so that the beak points to the appropriate ace laid out before him.
Tagua nuts come from the South American Rainforest and are also known as ivory palms, ivory nut palms, vegetable ivory and eco ivory.
There's no makers mark, but it was probably made during the 1930s to 1950s.
