What's for sale?
A mid-sized, 750 gram, 1950s, cylindrical, Belgian tin, branded in French and Dutch, for snack salamis, known as 'cigares' and 'bierworstjes'.
We have seen other tins for this product but here, the normal branding was altered to celebrate the 1957 launch of the first artificial Earth satellite, Sputnik 1.
The graphics are very nice: Sputnik depicted against the black of space with the silvery moon and stars behind. The space age has begun.
The only reference to the manufacturer is HRL 14.644 or RCL 14.644 in Dutch and French. The dual languages suggest they were made for the Belgian market.
