What's for sale?

This is a rare oil and vinegar set by Price & Kensington potteries, hand-decorated in their charming, spongeware, blue sheep design.

Spongeware decoration is applied by hand, using shaped pieces of sponge. This discontinued range included a large variety of kitchen and tableware, including teapots, mugs, plates and various serving dishes. This is quite a rare item and hard to find.

Who made it and when?

It's a modern piece, from a discontinued range, by the Staffordshire pottery Arthur Wood, which became part of Price & Kensington pottery and now both are part of Rayware. Having the Arthur Wood mark may mean it was an early example of the design. The maker's mark reads:

  • Arthur Wood
  • Established 1884
  • Designed in England

What condition is it in?

  • Second-hand
  • In very good condition
  • No chips or damage
  • There is crazing around the shoulders of the jugs
  • The corsk are still a tight fit

What are the measurements?

  • 19.5cm length - holder (just over 7.5 inches)
  • 9cm diameter - holder (3.5 inches)
  • 20cm high - holder (just under 8 inches)
  • 15cm high - jug without cork (just under 6 inches)
  • 7cm diameter - jug (2.75 inches)
  • 10cm diameter - jug including handle (4 inches)

  • 1040 grams in total
