A set of six cut-to-clear, lead crystal champagne coupes or saucers, for champagne, Sekt, Cava, Prosecco and other sparkling wines. Second-hand.
What's for sale?
This is a set of six cut-to-clear, lead crystal glasses for Sekt, champagne and other sparkling wines, in six colours.
Cut-to-clear describes the technique of layering coloured glass over clear glass and cutting the pattern to reveal the clear glass beneath.
The Traube (grape) pattern incorporates grapes, leaves and geometric lines, and proves the quality of Nachtmann's work. They're made of 24% lead crystal, have an intricate, faceted stem and star-cut foot.
In shape these are champagne coupes or saucers, with quite a deep bowl. They are harder to find in the Traube pattern than Nachtmann's taller hock glasses.
Who made them and when?
These are made by Nachtmann, the long-established, German manufacturer of lead crystal, based in Weiden, Bavaria. A couple still have labels attached, and some also have the Nachtmann monogram etched on the foot.
The Traube pattern was introduced during the 1970s and has been made for many years, which means they're difficult to date.
