This is a very small, multi-coloured, bottle-form vase by the well-regarded German designer and glassblower Karl Schmid.
It's a high quality piece in light, thin glass which has been stretched at the neck to almost clear. The colours are a beautiful, swirling sea of orange with purple and brown strands, reminiscent of planet Jupiter. On the base, it's signed "Schmid Fjo 89".
Who made it?
Karl Schmid was born in Lindburg, Bavaria in 1944. He studied glass making in Zwiesel and Passau and founded Glasbläserei Schmid in 1976. He produces art glass in various forms and in collaboration with other artists, including lighting, furniture, vases and so on.
