This is a very pretty, heart-shaped jug, finished in a blue and green salt glaze. It was made by the British potter Jane Hamlyn, whose work is widely exhibited and becoming quite collectable. The interesting shape and the blend of colours is typical of her work.
It is a pretty little jug with a pinched waist, a curled, rouletted handle and a heart-shaped main body and spout.
It has a beautiful blend of colours in blues and greens and on the inside, the pale blue shows off the soft, banded throwing lines from when it was made.
Salt glaze is a finish produced by the addition of salt and other ingredients into the kiln during the high temperature part of the firing. Jane Hamlyn is an expert in the technique.
Who made it and when?
It was made by the highly regarded, British potter Jane Hamlyn, who has produced pottery from her South Yorkshire studio since 1975. Her embossed, "JH" mark is found below the handle.
