What's for sale?
This is a small, branded and lacquered tin for pins made during the late 19th century by the English company Jahncke Ltd.
The tin is formed from two pieces, with the top half sliding between the folded-over sides of the bottom. All of the corners are rounded.
The pretty colouring and decoration help it stand out from similarly-sized tins. On the top it's labelled "The Best Pins" and there's a large, gold-coloured crescent in the centre containing the words "Crescent Quality". The bottom half of the tin is labelled "Jahncke's Patent".
Founded in 1873 by Ernest Jahncke, Jahncke Limited made small tin boxes, for a variety of products, from their Canonbury Works factory in Dorset Street, Islington, London. Bryant and May, the makers of Vesta matches, bought an interest in 1895, and they used Jahncke's boxes for their wax vestas.
