What's for sale?
This is a pair of handmade brandy glasses or "snifters" from Holmegaard's "Princess" range. They're also known as tulip glasses due to their shape. Note that these are not huge balloon glasses, but smaller ones, and therefore narrower across the rim and perfect for capturing the aromas of whatever you're drinking.
For brandy and cognac, the rounded bottom allows the glass to be cupped, warming the liquid. The large surface area aids evaporation while the narrow top retains the aroma. Ideally, glasses of this shape should be filled such that, when laid on their side, they don't spill.
The Princess design is over 60 years old now and is still a perfect representative for 20th century Scandinavian design. Its conical stem and captured bubble was designed by Danish architect Bent Severin in 1957. It was manufactured between 1958 and 1995 and the range included a variety of sizes and profiles, all with the same modern look. The form number "HL3" is etched into the base of two of the glasses.
Please note that these are in clear glass. Any smoked appearance of the stems in our photographs is reflection.
