A framed, second-hand brochure for the 1955 Penzance holiday season, with cover art by Harry Riley. Complete and original in a frame.
What's for sale?
This is a framed, complete and original copy of a 1954 promotional booklet for the Cornish holiday destination of Penzance.
The cover artwork is by Harry Riley (1895-1966). He's well known for his iconic travel posters, used from the 1920s to 1960s, by British railway companies to promote holiday destinations throughout the country.
His signature can just about be made out in the bottom right hand corner. This artwork is in fact a reuse of his 1952 British Railways poster “Penzance, Gateway To West Cornwall”.
Except for a couple of brief, opening articles with photographs on the area, the brochure's content is mainly adverts from hotels, guest houses and excursion organisers.
It's mounted in a black, engineered wood frame with perspex aperture.
When framing printed memorabilia, we use originals. We don't cut or deface and use a variety of archival methods to preserve and display. The frame is sealed but our method of pinning makes disassembling easier, if you wanted to view the piece (it would require remounting and resealing afterwards).
Like all wall-mounted artwork, avoid hanging in sustained, direct sunlight. Indirect sunlight is fine, but the UV rays in direct sunlight can cause fading over time.
