This is a medium-sized stoneware vase, made by the English potter Dennis Townsend.
The quality of Iden Pottery has always been high and this is another nice piece. The decoration reminds us of a green meadow, peppered with brown and yellow-tinged flowers. The pattern becomes more dense as the bottom of the vase is reached.
Who made it?
Dennis Townsend set up Iden Pottery in 1959 in the village of Iden, in East Sussex. Iden pots can sometimes be dated by counting the number of notches in the blue, outer circle of the maker's mark on the base, which were added from 1974. There are no notches on this vase so we're assuming it was made during the 1960s or early 1970s.
