A perpetual desktop calendar in chrome and Bakelite, with a characterful, robot-like face. Second-hand.
What's for sale?
This is a desktop perpetual calendar, made from black Bakelite and chrome.
At the top are two rollers that change the dates. At the bottom are two which change the month.
We like these calendars; the front looks like the face of a robot and the winders could be it's ear and neck lugs. It's known as pareidolia: the psychological trick of the mind which makes us see familiar patterns, like faces, where none exists. We still think it's a robot though.
We don't know the maker, but they were probably mass produced, anytime from the 1930s to the 1950s. They're tough and seem to survive well.
We're describing it as Bakelite, though it could be one of the other early cast plastics.
What condition is it in?
- Second-hand
- Fully operational and in fair to good condition
- There are a few scratches and scuffs
- There's surface rust on the screws and nuts holding it together
- The chrome finish on the face is thinner than the rear, which looks more obvious in the photographs than in the flesh
