What's for sale?

This is a medium height, handmade, studio pottery vase with spiral decoration by the English potter Chris Carter.

He is a well-regarded and much-exhibited artist, with items of his work bought for museum and gallery collections. This is an earlier example of his work, with layers of glaze in natural shades of brown and cream twisting around the body under a high gloss finish. The inside has another natural-coloured glaze in sage green.

Who made it and when?

Chris Carter set up his own pottery studio in Warwickshire in 1971. He sold his work from his studio and later from his shop at Drayton Manor Park until 1986. Since then he sells bespoke pieces through galleries. The impressed "CC" mark on the base of this pot was used between 1971 and 1986 and its style complements other pieces from that period.
