A Carstens Fat Lava 7152-19 Orange & Brown Planter For Sale
This is a medium-sized, 19cm high, square, orange and brown, 'Fat Lava' planter. It was made by the German manufacturer Carstens Tönnieshof, most likely during the 1970s or early 1980s.
Each side carries the same relief decoration of a bright orange flower on a mottled brown background. The same bright orange defines the rim and the base. The interior has a smooth, dark brown, high-gloss glaze.
The base has a matt finish and is dominated by the maker's monogram (two houses above the letters "T" and "C"), the form number and height ("7152 - 19") and text "W.Germany".
About Carstens Tönnieshof
Carstens has a very long history of making ceramics since the late 1800s. Factories existed in Rheinsberg and Fredelsloh in eastern and central Germany and later, in other countries too. The name Tönnieshof belonged to the farm where manufacturing was re-established in 1946 and this is where much of their famous art pottery of the 1960s, 70s and 80s will be from. This original business closed in 1984, but was born again in 1987 under the same family name as Carstens Keramik GmbH, back in in Fredelsloh-Moringen.
