A vintage 1980s, medium-sized, East German, leather army surplus map bag with shoulder strap, strap fastener and two compartments. New old stock.
Black leather army surplus messenger bag
This is an East German, army surplus, messenger bag. It's well made in tough, black leather. This is the last one we have left.
It is a heavy-duty bag, with a strong look: a heavy, fold-over flap on the front is secured by a thick, metal hoop. Inside are two large compartments.
Under the flap, on the front, is a closed-off pocket with four round holes for pencils, but this is a new bag and the pocket is still unstretched and flat.
The rear compartment is 180mm high x 160mm wide x 50mm deep (6.25" x 7" x 2"). The front is similar but half the depth at 25mm (1").
The shoulder strap is attached by two carabiners and two metal D rings. The length is adjusted by a buckle.
Our photographs show a smartphone to demonstrate the bag's size.
It was made for the East German Army (DDR NVA) and is from the 1980s.
